Big Season Ahead if it Worked: The S&C

If the strength, conditioning and nutrition changes we made in the off season worked, this team will win 11 regular season games. I say that despite concerns about the offensive line, safety and wide receiver, not to mention running back and a few other places we're relying on new and largely unproven talent.

We've got a long list of question marks, in fact. But if THIS TEAM can push people around in the Fourth Quarter, I like it's chances an awful lot.

That includes tonight, against what I expect will be a very good Boise State team. I say Dawgs by 3.

The rest of the season? A while back The Dawgbone had a picture / motto / with one basic message: We believe in Joe Tereshinski. It went up after one of the guys played golf with Coach Tereshinski and, like a lot of people who've met him, came away impressed as hell.

Me too. I think we fulfill a lot more of our potential this year, and I'm excited.

Final Thoughts:

Dan: I hope we don't blow them out too bad and get the big head. Rest of the season, we'll know in 8 days.

Joe: My final thought is we win.

Huff: UGA 35 - BSU 24. Some of the years that we have the most question marks are the years we have the best seasons. What I want to know is are boooze served in the dome for this?

Folks, it's not 2006

I hate to rain on our little parade of hope, and I'll happily eat my words Saturday if needed. But anyone looking for a repeat of the 2006 upset on the plains is begging to be disappointed.

This year's Auburn team does not have Brandon Cox at quarterback. This game does not kickoff at 11:30 central, an hour or so before Auburn's players actually wake up.

We don't have Charles Johnson, Ray Gant, Jeff Owens and Quentin Moses along the line of scrimmage. I think we're making upgrades, but I'm not convinced we've even got a Tra Battle at safety, so three interceptions in the first half ... unlikely.

Yeah, I think Auburn, outside of Cam Newton, is over-rated. Yeah, I think Cam Newton's father probably tried to trade his son's services for money. No, I don't think Auburn's defense can stop A.J. Green.

But quarterback play is so important in college football. And I haven't seen anything from our defense that makes me think we can stop a competent offensive attack, much less hold back the obvious Heisman front runner.

So I think this game ends up like a lot of Auburn games this year. High scoring for both sides. And then Auburn gets a stop or two in the fourth quarter, and suddenly you look around and Cam Newton's whipped you 62-40.

Update: All that said, let it be known that "we're going to get crushed," is far from a unanimous opinion on the l.i. editorial board.

Dan: You see this latest comment from Auburn, about whether Cam Newton's going to play tomorrow? They say no comment. He can't be sleeping well at night. I think we're gong to get them tomorrow.

Me: Uh, yeah. I just put a post up, basically saying that anybody who says that is an idiot. And I wouldn't read to much into a no comment. Still, I know we've got this history of screwing each other, of ruining one another's great seasons, and it'd be nice to keep that going.

Dan: It would be nice to tie up the series.

So, the bowl game's like tomorrow, right?

Thursday? Close enough.

I got Bama by 10 if they can injure Tim Tebow. Otherwise, it looks pretty strong for Florida, even with Percy Harvin being out.

That sinking feeling in my stomach

Granted, I worry before just about every game. And the boys over at Georgia Sports Blog are making fun of these Auburn players upset about all our dancing last year.

But the last time we pissed a team off with our shenanigans and they remembered it, it didn't work out so good.

So consider me gut-wrenchingly worried. You know, in a hopeful way.

The Tennessee game has no feel

I don't think there's any doubt the fans come out flat on Saturday.

And I know the phrase on my lips will be simple: Show me something.

Show me something, Bulldogs. We deserve it, you deserve it, Georgia deserves it.
