That the guy who finally beat us tonight is named "Chas" is emblamatic of two decades.
That was an exciting, soul-crushing game between two mediocre teams with some great talents. I thought Urban Meyer's heart would explode before mine, but I was wrong.
Perhaps A.J. Green needed more chances to stiff-arm him in it.
We are now 47-40-2 against Florida, which makes their 18-of-21 streak even more remarkable.
Huff, 4th quarter: I'm about to have an aneurysm.
We have personnel issues on defense. Murray finally looked life a freshman, albeit one who makes NFL throws. Overall, the offense is rounding into shape, which is obviously a problem in November.
The first few games it seemed like the bounces didn't go our way. The next three they did, and we won. Against Florida it seemed like they went our way, and we blew it.
41-14, Georgia. Journeys begin with a step in the right direction. Here's to being .500 when we face Florida. Though you'd be silly if you didn't say "where was that the last five weeks," and then disparage Tennessee.
“Boss, he pretty much called them out,” Richt said after Georgia's 41-14 rout of Tennessee. “But he did it in a way that was very compassionate. You could tell it was very obvious that he loved Georgia. It was obvious that he loved those guys. But he felt like he needed to tell them that they weren’t playing ball the way ball should be played here at Georgia."
Look at that SEC schedule the Cocks are facing. They have to play AT Auburn, against #1 Alabama, AT Kentucky and Vandy, against #14 Arkansas, and AT Florida. That's ridiculous. I feel pretty confident that even if the Gamecocks are better this year, they will still lose 2 SEC games in that schedule ...
That means if UGA can handle business the rest of the way, they will be FINE. Yes, easier said than done, but it isn't the end of the season yet, and I saw some things to be optimistic about.
Of course, I also liked the idea that we'd learned how to tackle.
Ealey in the Wild Dawg or wildcat or whatever you want to call it is about three years behind the cutting edge.
Bill also has harsh words for Bacarri Rambo, and I doubt he's the only one. I guess we don't have Willie Martinez and Bryan Evans to kick around anymore, and still don't tackle.
...
Stuff of Legend sees some positives, and I think there are more of them from today than it's easy to feel now:
- Defensive scheme was not the issue...we had guys in the backfield all day at the point of attack, and just failed to make the tackle. Very disappointing.
We did have five sacks, and caused a big turnover, and appeared to be in the right place almost all the time. If we could have just made tackles when we got there, again...it may have been a different game.
- Marcus Lattimore is the truth. Maybe not as good as we made him look today, but he is going to be a great one.
- I really don't have a problem with Mike Bobo in general...I question individual play calls at times, but that's going to be the case with every offensive coordinator.
One thing I do have a problem with, however...EVERY TIME we face 2nd and long, we run the ball. EVERY TIME.
Our offensive line is way overrated. Carolina has a good defensive front, but our running game was nonexistent after the first drive. Without a strong running game, our offense doesn't work. It's that simple. Searels has some work to do. Chapas's injury hurt, but our best second half rush was for five yards. We have to do better.
Bacarri Rambo. Ouch, buddy. Flush this whole game and get ready for Petrino's passing schemes.
The season isn't necessarily over with regards to the SEC Championship, but it's now teetering. I expect both SC and Florida to lose at least one conference game. Both have to play Bama and they have to play each other. We can still get to Atlanta. After today's performance, though, it's just too difficult to really conceive of this team playing for a championship.
It's the only time we've met, and we're 1-0. We let these dudes tie it, it might stay that way for a long, long time. So pay freaking attention, Georgia.
The game will feature two of the nation's best running backs in Jevon Ringer of Michigan State vs. Knowshon Moreno of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Personally, I think this is the most appropriate bowl destination for this team given the season we've had so far. MSU hasn't beaten anyone of note this season, and neither have our Bulldogs. It's a test to see who is most legit.
I have a confession to make: This loss to tech doesn't bother me that much.
Oh, I mean, it bothers me. But I knew we didn't have the fortitude to break something like that drought record. That's too much mojo for now.
“I really don’t (expect coaching changes),” Richt said. “We’re going to get better, and we’re going to do a better job next year, I can promise you that.”
Good enough for me. I suggest you address the not tackling first, if I may be so bold.
What's that you say? “I’m not sure we tackled enough,” Richt said. Agreed.
Congratulations to Georgia tech. They deserved it and they beat us.
We interrupt this post for additional recovery through music.
I have heard some say that the crowd was unimpressive. I might say uninspired. At times, given the size of the crowd, the rain, and the noon kickoff, I thought there was good participation.
But perhaps we grew disinterested, too. To me, it felt like the expected simply coming true, despite a very well-played first half. We should be glad Florida wasn't there.
The Munson honoring went very well. There were so many cameras down there I couldn't believe they all could get a shot. Larry seemed much more than pleased. Did we force a tear out of that guy? That'd be something. I was surprised they tried to do a Dooley ceremony at halftime.
How awesome was that Knowshon-is-going-score-no-matter-what touchdown?
How crazy was that Matt-Stafford-is-a-pinball-and-then-he- just-missed-Massaquoi play?
How many tackles did Rennie Curran have? Elleven. He led the team, obviously.
Massaquoi had 11 catches for 180 yards and three touchdowns. Knowshon got 17 carries for 94 yards after an on-fire opening. He caught 4 balls for 74 yards. The team rushed for 81 yards total.
Tech attempted 0 passes in the second half. Image: Jason Vorhees, The Telegraph.
For those wondering, we pick up Arkansas, at Arkansas, next year from the west. LSU comes to Athens. That opener at Okie State looks like a potential doozy.
There's a bye week before the Florida game and we play Tennessee Tech before the Auburn game, which is at home.
Fourth and goal was a gutsy call for a team that hadn’t scored a touchdown in four years.
Then realize that ain't the half of it.
1948: Won, 21-13, Athens 1949: Lost, 6-7, Atlanta 1950: Lost, 0-7, Athens 1951: Lost, 6-48, Atlanta 1952: Lost, 9-23, Athens 1953: Lost, 12-28, Atlanta 1954: Lost, 3-7, Athens 1955: Lost, 3-21, Atlanta 1956: Lost, 0-35, Athens 1957: Won, 7-0, Atlanta
That, my friends, is the longest winning or losing streak in the history of the Georgia / Georgia tech series. Unless we beat them Nov. 29. Then it will be tied for first. Then, in 2009, that record can fall.
