The plaques: No disrespect to UCF, just optimism

You may have seen this from the senator this morning, excerpting a column from Florida Today:
Even the Bulldogs overlooked the Knights. Oh, they won’t admit that. But at their recent team banquet, the Bulldogs presented its seniors with a plaque. Etched on it was the season record — 7-6.

Keep in mind that Georgia entered the Liberty Bowl with a 6-6 record.
It reads like we added self-inflicted insult to injury, and further evidence of a team that took the bowl game for granted. But there is some context to this. Namely, we do it every year.

From UGA Athletic Department spokesman Claude Felton via email today:
Every year we present the senior plaques at the Gala, which as you know is before the bowl game. One line on the plate is the season record and we always list it with a win in the upcoming bowl game. If we lose the game, we replace the plate.

We’ve done that 14 straight years and only had to replace the plate 3 times.

I know what the team and school is trying to do and being optomistic by putting down a win before it happens, but somehow in this case, I think it was taken for granted more than the '01 or '05 losses to BC or WVU.

No one would ASSUME a loss, but break down ass-u-me and you see what you get...

That '05 Sugar Bowl was taken for granted just as much I believe. Most of the team were out at wee hours of the night parting in the ATL the night before the game. They had there SEC rings and no worries.

I'm all for revisiting the policy. Every little thing that can be done to restore and maintain focus should be done.

That is just what we need right now.

More Bad Press.

5 years of Bad Press.

It all began the night we were ranked # 1 in every Poll in America.

It has continued unabated to this day. In fact, it has intensified, daily.
