When in doubt, bring in a Tereshinski

It looks like Coach Richt is parting ways with his long time friend, moving Dave Van Halanger out as strength and conditioning coach. In his place, per Mark Weiszer ... Joe Tereshinski?

A name that inspires confidence, to be sure.

Update, From Seth Emerson:
A former player, who will remain anonymous because the move hasn't been made official, was fully on board with the change: "Coach T is a stud. I'm telling you that is such a great move it ain't even funny."
Let's hope so. By the way, John Kasay Sr. will be the new assistant S&C coach, per both Seth and Mark, meaning we'll have two guys running that program who have sons, with the same names, who played for Georgia.

Ninja baby gets drunk, wears dress, steals presents

This story is datelined Chattanooga:
The child, Hayden Wright, was found around 1:45 am Tuesday, wandering the streets of his neighborhood. In a police reports, officers said he was wearing a little girl's dress and drinking a beer. The police report says the child had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for alcohol consumption. ...

(His mother April) Wright says she woke up that night at 1:45 am and panicked when she found Hayden was gone. She says she put safety devices on all the doors so her kids couldn't get out, but Hayden was able to break the safety device off the doorknob and get outside.

Once out, Wright says her four year old followed his father's footsteps and was found on Blue Spruce Road, drinking.

"He runs away trying to find his father," she said. "He wants to get in trouble so he can go to jail because that's where his daddy is."
There's video on the link, with an in-house interview of the mother.

"It may be one of the strangest stories we've ever reported to you," the anchor says.

May? It starts like a wild joke, and ends up punching you in the stomach.

Georgia tech knows what women want: robotics demonstrations

Sent to me by my buddy Huff...

Part of me thinks: "This just can't be real."

The rest of me knows: "Of course it is."

Georgia tech, famous for its lack of attractive female students, is apparently recruiting women. That's actually commendable. But when your pitch involves robots, I think you've... I don't even know how to finish that thought. Something about a self-fulfilling prophecy and a stereotype explained.

To paraphrase George Costanza, I know less about women than anyone in the world. But even I know they're not going to any robotics demonstration:
Bring a Girl to tech

Saturday, April 26
Technology Square Research Building (85 5th Street, Atlanta)
9:30 – 10:00 a.m.: Check-in, Coffee & Doughnuts
10:00 – 10:10 a.m.: Admissions Welcome
10:10 a.m. – Noon: Robotics Program

Only an hour and 50 minutes? That's not nearly long enough.

By the way, ladies, if April 26 can't come soon enough for you, be sure to check out the tech Pi Mile 5K Race. I don't have any idea what that means, and I don't want to know.

UPDATE: Anyone else notice I had "demonstrations" misspelled for two days?

Colt Brennan and the worst mistake of my life

I've removed the name and contact information, but this is an actual letter to the editor my paper received late last week over this column, in which I said (figuratively) that I wanted Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan's head on a stick. My own smart-ass comments appear as appropriate.
Dear Sirs:

It was disappointing to learn that a person from your newspaper expressed his disappointment with the BCS process by threatening the life of Hawaii's quarterback, Colt Brennan. This was not ordinary banter between two colleges, two teams or two cities. This was the type of diatribe that is akin to inciting radical terrorists to assault and kill our troops, their own people and attack innocents around the world.

Um, OK.
Why, in a position such as his on your newspaper, was this sick, over-zealous sewage allowed in print?

The guy who writes the under-zealous sewage was off that day.
Colt is a college student who happens to excel in football.

He's also a plea bargain away from being a registered sex offender.
Why would he or anyone else for that matter, deserve that type of reaction? He never refuses a request for autographs, photo ops, or a simple handshake. He has so much respect for his other team members, the majority of which are of Samoan descent, that he actually learned to speak Samoan.

I hope he learned how to say "Someone please block Rennie Curran."
He is loved in Hawaii by its people and especially his team mates. Anyone who even looks at him the wrong way has just made the biggest mistake of their lives.

I honestly have no idea what that means. Is it a threat, or do guilt and self-loathing just ruin the rest of your life if you look at Colt Brennan the wrong way? Or maybe he's like an eclipse - if you look at him without one of those mirror box thingies you'll go blind.
Hawaii has been insulted to the extreme because of this attack, and our proud Warriors will unfortunately have to take it out on your team. Hawaii - 27, Georgia - 10.

You'd think fans of a team called "The Rainblow..." excuse me, "The Rainbow Warriors" would understand the concept of figurative speech. Are they really at war? Are they actually rainbows?

Also, Hawaii fans can feel free to lecture me on sportsmanship as soon as they stop attacking people from Fresno State.

By the way, Hawaii, stop putting that apostrophe between the two i's in Hawai'i. The rest of the country thinks it looks stupid.

We will never forget the Alamo. Now let's go beat Auburn.

Let's take a break from hating tech for a moment, to ask this question: Is Nick Saban just a terrible person?

I mean, we know he's not a moron, because he's just been too successful as a coach. So what explanations are left for this quote, meant to motivate his football team:
"Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event," Saban said during the opening remarks of his weekly news conference. "It may be 9-11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event."

I think the most jaw-dropping part of that quote, beyond the gall it takes to relate football to the two most catostrophic attacks ever to occur on American soil, is when he says "or whatever."

Whatever? Is Coach Saban confused about which war Pearl Harbor is related to? In whose world is WORLD FREAKING WORLD II an "or whatever" kind of event?

Rudy Giuliani is on the phone, Nick. He wants to know why you hate America.

The story is on SI.com.

But what you really want to read is Sen. Blutarsky's take on it. (Which is ironic, since Blutarsky took his name from the original "take- Pearl-Harbor-out-of-its-context-to-motivate-college-students guy.")

Blutarsky also gets into the whole D.J. Hall thing, where he was suspended as part of a strong moral stance by the Alabama football program... right up until they really needed him to keep from losing to Louisiana-Monroe. Which they didn't.

Don't forget your power towel

Remember the "I'm Georgia" campaign a few years back at Sanford Stadium?

This is worse. Way, way, way worse. Sent by a buddy of mine:

Also, how come the K-State mascot has a huge hairy head, but no hair on his arms or legs?

No, that's... that was Mongolia

I started out to show that pretty much every one can find the United States of America on a world map. That to suggest otherwise was ridiculous.

Sadly, I was wrong. This is the story. And here's the video, shot and edited by Ryan Gilchrest here at the paper.
